What should I wear / bring to class? Comfortable, breathable work out clothes that can move with your body, are best. In some poses, such as Downward Facing Dog, you may find that a big loose t-shirt will fall over your head/belly, which can be distracting during your practice, so longer tops that fit a little closer to the body are good options. For Warm Vinyasa or Heated Vinyasa classes where the room is heated to about 90 degrees - clothes that wick away moisture and a towel are recommended.
Should I eat before taking a yoga class? Practicing on a full stomach isn't advised, so a very light snack at least 1 hour before or a meal 2-3 hours before is best.
Do you provide mats? Yes mats, blankets, and props are free to borrow. Kindly clean and return the mats when you are finished using them.
How early should I come to class? Generally, 5-10 minutes before class start time is advised to get signed-in and have a few moments to settle in, set your mat up, etc.
What is the difference between the types of yoga? If the class is "Hatha," it's a bit easier, slower paced than the Vinyasa classes. All yoga, however, is Hatha. See the full description for the classes here for the all class types, including them men’s classes, kids and teens, Yogalates and Pilates
How do I know which level class is right for me? The Hatha classes are generally fine for most if you are in reasonable shape. If you are brand new to yoga, we also recommend joining one of the Beginner Series, or the Gentle Yoga classes are also a great option.
What is a Community Class? Community classes are 60 minute classes typically taught by rotating teachers in our teacher training program, or newly graduated teachers. The teachers donate their time to teach and the recommended donation for students is $8.00. 100% of the proceeds go to various affiliated charities. You can also use your class packs towards these classes.
What classes can I take if I am pregnant? The Gentle Yoga and Beginner Yoga classes are great options for pregnant women. Be sure to inform your instructor so s/he can best modify and accommodate you. If you've been practicing yoga prior to your pregnancy, you may be surprised at how much of your practice you can retain, especially in the first trimester but it's best to assess on a case by case basis. It would be better to avoid the Warm/Heated classes.
What are the health benefits of yoga? So so many! The obvious are better flexibility, core strength, muscle toning, better bone density, improvemnet in balance. Then of course there is the improvemnet of the immune system, better digestion, stronger heart, better nervous system function. A peaceful mind, feelings of compassionate and love and an overall happier disposition.
