Join me on this beautiful retreat!
Give yourself the gift of yoga & more in beautiful Santa Teresa on the Pacific coast of CostaRica. This quaint, laid-back beach town vibrates with subtle shakti energy! The magnificent beach is a 5 minute walk from the beautiful boutique hotel.
You will be spiritually rejuvenated as you immerse yourself in daily Vinyasa practice, meditation and pranayama. You will also have the opportunity to connect to the beauty and magic that the area has to offer. There is hiking, swimming, surfing, waterfall day trips, cloud forest zip lining and heaps more! Or..... you can simply practice savasana by the infinity pool!
This is a trip that truly connects to spirit, body and mind in every sense.
I just got back and the location is awesome. Stunning vistas, beautiful yoga shala, friendly people, delicious, fresh food & lovely accommodations. It's perfect!
The villa style hotel has 11 beautifully appointed rooms. Most have kitchens, and some have balconies with sea views. There is a/c in all the rooms. Sleeping configurations vary, from king size rooms to rooms with twin and queen beds. Accommodations will be designated on a first book, first serve basis. Bathrooms include hot & cold showers, hair dryers and complimentary toiletries. Housekeeping is provided daily. This is not a "rustic" style retreat. While it is very eco conscious, it still maintains deluxe comfort.
We will follow mainly ayurvedic principles, which means eating our main meal at 1pm. We will be having some dinners at the open-air restaurant next to the hotel, which is ranked as one of the best in town & offers the BEST view in all of Santa Teresa looking out to the ocean and the beautiful vistas of Mal Pais. The menu includes plates with fruits & vegetables from the local gardens and non-vegetarian options; seafood fresh from the ocean. Chipotle-lime-marinated mahi-mahi or grilled fresh ginger shrimp served over linguine. Dessert might feature a chocolate-banana bread pudding.
One dinner will be at a wonderful Italian restaurant and another will be at a local "tico" establishment
Breakfasts will be fresh fruits, yogurts, homemade granola & gallo pinto.
Lunch includes fresh salads, veggie wraps, nutritious smoothies & Indian cuisine following Ayurvedic principles. Kitchari, dal, papaya & avocado salad, chickpeas in Marsala Sauce will feature.
Yoga, Meditation & Pranayama-Guest teacher Rama!
Daily meditation and pranayama start the day, while we observe Noble Silence until breakfast. Rama, New Jersey's beloved yoga teacher will be leading some of these pranayama sessions! After which we be begin 1 1/2 hours of asana practice. The asanas taught will be skillfully applied; each day building upon the previous days practice. This progression will ensure that you reach successful accomplishment in your practice. Mandy Grant, E-RYT 500, owner of Juluka Yoga Studio & Training School, RYS will lead the retreat. She brings over 18 years of practice & teaching, blending various schools of yoga, to provide a nourishing & fulfilling experience. Mandy has lead several retreats in the Caribbean, India, the United States & Africa. She is dedicated to making sure your experience is nothing short of fantastic. She personally visits the locations and accommodations before booking & keeps the groups on the small size, so you can always be sure of a personal touch. Mandy has personally trained and graduated over 70 yoga teachers in the New York/New Jersey area. She has a very warm, yet structured teaching style and always brings 100% to her classes.
In the late afternoon we meet for 1 to 1 1/2 hours of interesting "manas" time. Ayurveda will be the main focus. We will have Ayurvedic cooking lessons, learn how to balance our doshas and how to access our senses in a "sensible" way.
Our five senses of taste, sight, sound, smell and touch unlock the joy and grandeur of life. Because our senses constantly feed our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual beings, it's important to use them wisely. As we begin to step into greater balance, we will naturally desire sensory impressions of a balancing nature. Since we don't live in isolated bubbles, we will also learn to digest, efficiently, those impressions we could have easily done without.
Other topics include "Growing our Potential" & "Conquering Fear".
We will also have time to teach our bodies & minds how to deeply relax through yoga nidra & restorative yoga.
Rama will also treat us to a session or two, sharing his wealth of knowledge, accumulated over decades of studying with some of yogas greatest teachers.
Your investment includes a 1 hour full body massage with Chelsea. She is HEAVENLY!
* Zip-lining in nearby Montezuma. It has 11 platforms, some of which pass over the famous Montezuma River. The views are spectacular and you get a chance to swim in the refreshing and world famous Montezuma waterfalls.
* Hiking in Cabo Blanco is a national park located just ten minutes from the retreat. It protects an extremely important mix of evergreen and deciduous tropical forest and is the home to many rare and threatened wildlife species including the curassow, crested iguana, brocket deer, and jaguars. Other commonly seen species are white faced and howler monkeys, red squirrels, raccoons, kinkajous, and an abundance of birds.
* ATV- Fun and a great way to explore the area! Very easy to drive.
* SUP-Stand up paddle. We will arrange an afternoon tour for this.
* Surfing. The Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area boasts some of the best quality and consistent waves in the world. Swells hit this area year-round. There is a wave suitable for every level of surfer. The most consistent breaks are found at Playa Carmen, located directly in front of the hotel, and Playa Santa Teresa, a five-minute drive to the north. Excellent instruction and board rental is available.
* Horseback Riding. Enjoy the beaches and wildlife on the back of a horse. The tour guide will show you tracks, you would never discover alone.
"I have participated in several retreats Mandy has led in the past, taking away lasting memories and unique experiences (some of which include surfing and learning trapeze in the Dominican Republic and traveling through northern India). Mandy creates a retreat that is engaging (physically, mentally and spiritually), fun and that leaves plenty of room for self reflection. Without being obvious, Mandy sets a tone and creates a comfortable atmosphere that encourages and allows comradery among fellow retreaters to flourish. Her love for travel and different cultures further creates possibilities for what a retreat, in essence, promises - an opportunity to see oneself from a different perspective."

[The India Soul Adventure] was a very well -planned itinerary and everything went perfectly. You know why? With Mandy behind the scenes, everything was safe, simple and organized. I confess it all boils down to traveling with an experienced person – Mandy’s previous career as a travel agent in addition to being a wonderful Yoga teacher and friend resulted in our group loving and enjoying every bit of it. Our group was very diverse and fun, almost like we had traveled together before. So fear not, pack your bags, and prepare for the retreat of your life. Let go and let Mandy guide you to enjoying the ride!
"The Northern India Soul Adventure with Juluka Yoga was undoubtedly one of the most interesting, beautiful, serene, adventurous, peaceful, and AMAZING experiences of my life. Along with studying under the incomparable Mandy Grant in the valleys that bred the beginnings of yoga over 5,000 years ago, the local culture, landscape, and people were nothing short of remarkable. The retreat was planned perfectly and resulted a perfect array of new experiences, friendships, and memories that will certainly last a lifetime. I will be signing up for the next trip!

Another option is to fly into San Jose (SJO) and take a small plane to Tambor, (35 minutes) then a taxi to Santa Teresa, 50 minutes. This way would probably require an overnight in San Jose on the return. The airfares right now into Liberia on American, Jet Blue, U.S Airways and United are very good.
